Eye Glass Frames - Making The Right Choice
Greetings friends! Welcome to my rant on Eye Glass Frames! I have been wearing eyeglasses for over 40 years since I was 2 years old. I've seen styles come and go but when it comes down to eye wear it still goes back to the basics of Lens, Frames and Fit. Since eyeglasses have been such a huge part of my life for most of my life I thought it would be a great idea to write a few words on a topic that lives with me on a daily basis.
These days when it comes to Eye Glass Frames making a choice can be a tough one with all of the available styles and features that are available. I've been wearing eyeglasses since I was 3 years old and, I've been through many sets of glasses since that time. When I started wearing glasses you basically had a handful of styles and the glasses came in 2 materials: Metal and Plastic. Of course they were not the 'hip' cool styles you have available these days the plastic ones were BIG and filled out half of your face when you wore them. Metal was better but if you were hard on glasses like I was you didn't bother. Eyeglasses are something that a lot of us have to live with most of our lives so I hope you can benefit from some of my experience of the past 40+ years of wearing eyeglasses on a regular basis. Maybe you've recently have been informed that you need glasses or, maybe you need an update on some of the latest styles and options. Either way I'm sure you'll find some of the information in this article presented to you useful.
My History With Eye Glass Frames
It all started before I can really remember. When I was 2 my mom noticed my eyes had changed and took me to a ophthalmologist. Sure enough I had developed a lazy eye and astigmatism. I also was becoming far sited that is, without my glasses things appear further away. So, from as long as I can remember I have worn glasses. I've had my glasses fall off my face, stepped on, ran over by a car, thrown in a pond, and a few other things that I can't remember. I tried contacts for a brief period however, because of my eyes the way they are I can't wear the disposable contacts so that means I have to carry around a bottle of drops and clean them every time I take them off. Sleep with them? Not me, if I did happen to fall asleep with them on I would be seeing rainbows around everything for the next several hours. For me contacts were summed up in 2 words, "High Maintenance!" On the positive side of things I can't tell you how many times my glasses have saved me from having my eye poked out. As with anything it has it's negatives and positives and, I hope to highly some of both as we continue on.
Adult Choices
If you are an adult and seeking a pair of Eye Glass Frames you are in luck! You have so many styles to choose from these days it can make your head spin. Frames even have "name brands" from Ray Ban to Polo. There are also many styles and colors available. You can get Rimless frames that are just ear pieces that are drilled into the lens itself so it looks like you are not wearing any glasses at all. If you look at other websites about picking frames they talk about matching the shape of your face up to the color and style of the frames. Personally I have never done this. It's really simple, go to the optical store and try on every frame that strikes your fancy in the store. Then narrow your choices down to 3 pairs. Then sit down at one of the glasses fitting tables where you usually have access to a mirror with bright lights and narrow your 3 frames down to the frame that you like the most! It's that simple, don't worry about color schemes and shape of your face. Bottom line is, if you think your glasses look good on you then others will too.
Child Options
If you are looking for a pair of Eye Glass Frames for your child you have most of the choices available as are with adult frames however you will probably want to consider some more of the flexible frame options for your child since glasses will often end up on the playground floor. If you have detected your child's vision problem early I would highly recommend a laser procedure over eyeglasses. Wearing glasses as a kid just sucks, yes I can't find another word. You get called 4-eyes, people will take your glasses and throw them, hide them from you, break them and much much more. I could go on and on. If it is not an option then I recommend you go with a flexible frame option so the chances of the glasses breaking is minimized however, if your child is young and you have recently detected a change in his or her eyes then I would explore laser options available as a correction option. Personally I have had my reservations about Lasik procedures since they came out however, I was in my 30's when the Lasik correction hit the market. To me I've worn glasses all my life so it's very second nature however, if Lasik had been available when I was 2 years old I would of hoped my mom would of had my vision corrected in that manner instead! Glasses are simply an added hassle for a child and, if they can be avoided I recommend doing so.
Features To Consider
Some of the more popular features available are Spring Loaded Ear Pieces: to help minimize breakage. Titanium frames: I highly recommend these if you are very hard on your glasses. I have a pair that is 10 years old and hasn't broken yet. Flexible Frames: I recommend checking out the flexible options for your kids to help minimize breakage. Also be sure to invest in a good microfiber cloth and eye cleaning solution for daily care of your glasses. A good hard side case is also a good investment for storage and protection of your Eye Glass Frames when not in use.
